Very Well Engineered

I bought this to replace another carrier. The bones hitch is lighter and secures bikes better than our old carrier. I would recommend this to anyone interested in a new hitch mounted carrier.

Must Have For Hatch Back & Wagon Owners

I love this rack! I love it for these 3 reasons: Fuel Economy: I've never been a fan of what a roof rack does to your gas mileage. This rack is the answer. The rack and bikes are mostly hidden in the slipstream of your vehicle protected from the wind and a lot of the elements. I see no negative effect on my fuel economy. Ease of Use: The trays are easy to reach and the bikes mount super easy and securely. Loading bikes is so fast. I have a bones RS and loading bikes on this rack is so much faster. They do bounce a bit, but that's to be expected. Visibility: The rack clears the rear wiper on my Mazda 3 and my Subaru, which is great because it enables me to keep the rack on and still see out the window. Visibility is also generally quite good as the bikes and rack minimally obscure you rear view. Nitpicks: wish it had a more secure mounting system like the bones RS (side straps on a hatch aren't always that easy to deal with). the front wheel trays aren't awesome with bikes with fenders. No real fix for that, but be aware. lastly, I may buy a roof rack tray to mount a third bike in between the two existing mounts. probably a fork mounted tray so i don't run into handlebar interference.

Good Rack, With Minor Alterations

I use this rack on a 2009 Toyota Venza. I had trouble finding a rack to even fit my car (as I have no trailer hitch) that would carry two bikes, and this fits the bill. I am pleased with the rack overall. I did have to purchase a separate part from Saris to use with my Venza. You can't use the metal clips on the window on the side (there's no metal around the sides of my rear window), so I had to buy different straps with little foam cylinders to go inside the window. It would have been nice if those had been included. As another reviewer noted, no matter how I crank down those bottom straps, they keep coming undone from the bottom of the hatch and flopping around. I don't think it makes the rack less stable, because it's really being held in place by the top and side straps, but it's really annoying. The other modification I had to make, and this isn't really the fault of Saris, is that, because I have an Electra Townie, it doesn't fit perfectly in the rack. Because it's a pedal forward design, the bike has a longer base than a regular bike. It rests _almost on_ on the bottom holder but the included strap wouldn't quite fit. I bought a small nylon buckle-style dog collar, and it works well. My car is kind of tall, although it's not as tall as a regular SUV, and I'm 5'5". My bike and my son's bikes are not super lightweight, and it took some time before I was very good at getting those bikes up there. It can be kind of unwieldy and a bit of a knuckle-buster, especially for a woman, to load. I think I've gotten pretty smooth at it now, and it's a good opportunity to work on that upper body strength, but if you've got a bad back, you want to think twice. I don't want this to sound like a negative review...it's not. I do like the Gran Fondo, and I don't know what I would have done without it. Not have a bike rack at all, I guess. It looks cool, it fits my car, I feel confident that my bikes aren't going to fly off the back of the car on the highway, and I can load it myself. But it wasn't pop it on the car and done.

Different

Wanted something different as did not like carrying bikes across the width of my car. Fits my Citroen C4 very well and gives good visibility to the rear. Easy to build, although did notice that some of the nylocks rotated within the plastic holes they fit in, like another reviewer easily solved by use of a screwdriver. Easy to fit onto the rear of my car. Very easy to fit bikes on to the rack, and for me a bonus that the bikes do not go any where near the bodywork of the car. Have just taken my car out for a test drive with both my bikes on the racks. Rack did not move on the rear of my car at all as I drove around a few country lanes with plenty of corners; although took a little getting used to seeing the bikes wobble from side to side but they remained firmly fixed in place on the rack. In summary I like it; easy to fit on my car, easy to load, bikes secure on the rack. Only downsides for me; is it is expensive and would be nice if it could carry three bikes - there is enough space to fit in a third bike holder.

Does What It Says Well.

New car didn't have a tow bar so needed a new rack. This lived up to it's advertising in that it was much easier to load the bikes, we didn't need extra bungess cords or lighting board and the bike position is lower drag than across the car. However, the top wheel holder is a bit narrow for 2.2" MTB tyres, a squeeze to get them in and then you have to roll them out. Secure when in though despite only having two clicks of strap available! Plastic bolt handles a bit fiddley during set up & would have preferred plain cap heads. On the road, very secure at the max 70mph tried & normal 65mph cruise. Bumps produce a side to side wobble but quickly damped out. No problem with straps fitting or staying tight, tie them up to prevent flapping around noise (around wheel to back up straps). Overall, very pleased with bike security and loading/unloading. Not as easy to store as tow rack - found hanging from garage roof was best. Conclusion: Excellent, lives up to the advertising. 4 star not 5 due to MTB tyres being a tight fit and storage
