Caused Paint Damage

I received this product as a gift- upon installing I was reassured it would not cause damage to the back of my car from the bottoms of the straps that attach to the back hatch. It has been on my car for 6 months and decided to take it off since I have not been using it much and it has left 2 large visible scratches to the body of the car. I understand this sometimes cannot be helped but maybe you can look at rubber vs metal?Who is going to pay for the damage that your product created?
