Was already sold on these before purchase, 4th pair of Speedcross 5 Gore-Tex. Perfect for braking trails or when things get muddy, and lately it has been very muddy. Still the best aggressive lug profile for fast trails, hill climbs and fast downhill decent. I run with dogs, and due to there unpredictable nature, braking and landing a sudden jump is important. Knowing the heel grip is there when needed is therefore all important. Great waterproofing, great sizing and fit. (Note I like a slightly narrow fit, less rotation on loose terrain). Only very minor downside to these shoes is wear on the soles when it gets a little dryer or rough, but then the Speedcross 6s come out to play. Wonderful shoe, currently have three pair on the go, when it is muddy it is wet and taking 24 plus hours to dry at room temperature, means I need the three pairs to cover my runs.

My first pair of Salomon shoes and my first for trail running. Overall a great pair. Very stable, excellent grip and very snug. My pair have gone through plenty of mud in the forest but had no problems. Very pleased with this pair.

This is my third pair of SC 5 GTX and this is the best model in my opinion. They fit more snug than the SC 6 GTX. I hope the SC 5 GTX stays in stock forever.

I use these as walking shoes and I am not a trail runner however these are extremely comfortable. They're great for none-tarmac or hard surfaces and whilst they are fine for tarmac etc I think running in them on a hard surface would not be as fun!

My first pair of proper trail shoes and they don't disappoint. Very comfortable (the tip of buying half-size bigger than normal was spot on).

Best trail shoes ever invented. Please don’t change them too much!

A few runs undertaken so far, a few 6km in muddy wet Wales now I’m back in Norway, 5km in the snow at -6 and now 11km in the snow at -15. Couldn’t be happier at the moment, feet dry, feet warm and no moisture building up. Shoes look great, the grip is second to none and pretty light for what they are. Will push them through this Norwegian winter and into the summer trails. I cant see these shoes having any issues.

Every single one of my shoes is a size 9 so I bought these shoes in size 9. However, the fit is too small. I can get it but it is tight and I can feel it when running with toes right up against the shoe. Sadly, once you’ve worn the shoes you can’t return. So my suggestion is to go at least 0.5 or 1 size higher. Other than that, the shoes are great for the trails. Good grip and waterproof.

I’ve had 5 pairs over the last 10 years. I wear them to work, for dog walks , so up to 10 hours a day. They have cured my plantar fasciitis and they are so quick to put on in the morning Excellent !!!

Brilliant shoes but too small. I am always a size 9 and ordered a size 9 but my shoes delivered are too small. I have tried wearing them now for a few weeks to see how I get on but they are just too small.

I must have bought these over a year ago now, and only really run in the winter when bike riding is reduced, in the grand scheme of things, light use. My issue is the inner heel, this is the second pair where the inner of the heel of the shoe has just disintegrated, and on the latest Gore Tex pair this has left a very uncomfortable area that is now causing blisters. I have effected my own remedial repairs so I can continue to use the shoe, as they have so much life left in them - but the fact this has now happened on two pairs with minimal use means I now have no loyalty to Salomon and will look else where for my next shoe.
