I'm a lover of hiking shorts with no built in belt or elastic waist. I still rock belts to hang stuff. The old ferrosi Outdoor research shorts were my jam. When those changed, I moved to Patagonia quandary. Now those have changed and these Basin trek are my favorite. I like em long with the 9in length.

Great shorts, light, comfortable and durable. Fit true to size.

Loving my new trek shorts. Very breathable, smooth material that gets the job done on a hot day hiking or just casually strolling around town!

Never got a chance to wear them. They arrived very wrinkled. I tried to iron them and they melted. Tag said iron low, but didnt work

Currently my favorite shorts. They look good enough for everyday wear, and are light enough to be my go to for any outdoor adventure. They are waterproof so it saved me buying a new bathing suit. Only design issue is the zipper sticks out unless you remember to hide it.

Great shorts for hiking or climbing. They’re comfortable while moving and breathe well. Bonus, they fit as expected!

I bought a pair of of the regular length and the size 34 fit my waist perfectly. Unless you're a skinny guy, be prepared for a snug fit in the butt & thighs. Luckily I don't mind. Skies out thighs out!

Have the regular and the long inseam- both are terrific. Love everything about these shorts, versatile, wrinkle free, great on a hike or golf or casual.

I bought it in the Dunes colour and absolutely love it. Many left a comment that this is too short and I think it is actually the perfect length to allow unlimited mobility. As someone with a slim build, specifically in the thighs area, I love that these are feeling tapered rather than loose. I have the same model in the pants version for those hikes or situations that requires it.

Found this to be better than the AP Canyon shorts. The material can stretch with movement and a belt is not necessary. Pockets are deep and have a relaxed feel. 7” inseam regular fit was as expected and just the right length that I am use too.

It seems as if the reviews here are in agreement: the hem length is too short. I guide backpacking trips in the Sierra, and putting sunscreen six inches above the knees isn't something I do very often. Thus, give that some thought before pulling the trigger. Now, that said, the fabric is comfortable, and the deep front pockets are practical. I felt some flexibility issues along the hip-line, probably due to the fabric build-up, especially if bending or stepping high on rocks or over trail obstacles. The rear zippered pockets are a nice touch, and the shorts are certainly packable. These might ultimately be best for casual days on the dock with flops and floaties. But they'll make the hike if you need them to.

I am a backpacking guide based out of Colorado. There are a lot of things to be excited about when it comes to these shorts. One area that may fall short is that the inseam is too short and rivals that of running shorts. I would prefer a couple more inches on the inseam to make them more usable on and off-trail. Otherwise, this short fits true to size. I am usually a 30-inch waist and that is the size that I ordered. The pockets on these shorts are great including a zippered pocket on the back. Overall, I think these shorts are ideal for backpacking or hiking in warmer weather. I love the articulation and breathability of these shorts.

As a mountaineering guide in Washington, I don't often wear shorts while in the mountains. However, the Basin Trek Short might be the shorts that buck that trend. Pants and shorts are difficult for me to buy sight unseen due to the large variance of sizing and cuts, so I was apprehensive when I ordered my normal size of 33. When the shorts arrived, they fit super well with one small issue. These are the shortest shorts I have ever owned. I have some hefty mountaineering legs and a little goes a long way, so when I saw how short the regular length for these shorts were I had to muster a bit more courage to get out and use them in public. Fortunately for me, the seat gusset construction provided ample mobility for hiking through the woods on a sunny sunday afternoon. And the belt loop waist and snap button closure made these shorts incredibly comfortable to wear down to meet a friend for a socially distanced happy hour beer! These shorts would be great for anyone who wants sharp looking, water repellant, comfortable shorts that are not your typical knee length style. These shorts will take you to the crag for some pumpy laps on your project and then back to a backyard BBQ to sip on some lovely post send beverages. If you’re like me and are a bit timid about sporting some early season pasty white thighs, opt for the long length and gain an extra 2 inches of length to these stylish shorts.
