We're pretty conscience about weight and portability as we're based out of NW Montana and have lots of steep country to navigate. We usually have packed with an alcohol stove, but waiting for water to boil is a test in patience. After packing all day and you're hungry, you want to eat and waiting for water heat up then additional time to rehydrate food is taxing. Don't even think about getting that first couple of coffee quickly in the morning. We were hesitant on getting a JETBOIL because we're used to the old school burners. Heavy, messy, etc. We picked up a JETBOIL Flash to try. Yeah it was bigger than an alcohol stove, but when we used it for the first time this last backpack trip, we were blown away. This is great engineering. Easy to set up and use. OMG is it fast. Awesome heat indicator, has a french coffee press feature and packs easily. Lighter weight than stainless steel with the titanium construction, so it should be durable for lots of boiling years.
