I bought this knife several years ago to replace my "Gun Site". It has met & exceeded all expectations. I repair exercise equipment, periodically I must trim a walking belt w/ a torn edge, blade held against the back roller @ full speed to make a clean cut. A groove is typically cut into the steel roller. Blade will still be shaving sharp. I've done this 15 - 20 times now.

I have been carrying a Recon Tanto 50/50 every day for over 20 years. The black coating is worn off most of the blade and it has been sharpened enough times that the serrated section now matches the remainder of the blade. The knife is still as sturdy and strong as the day I bought it. I will probably be replacing it with a new one in the near future and it will definitely be the Recon1 Tanto 50/50.

The earlier model Recon 1 tanto was slightly different with a sliding ambidextrous button to unlock and lock the blade. One hand opening by pulling the button and flipping the handle toward the back. I carried it in my sap pocket from 1989 until 2015. It cut every imaginable thing keeps an edge and is the best knife ever for strength and sharp edge. The 1/2 serrated blade came in handy for cutting battery cables at car crashes to disable the power and make it safe for others to extract occupants safely.

I bought the Recon 1 Tanto 50/50 two months ago and I love it. I use it at work to cut straps and cord often. The grip feels great and fits my hand securely . It came razor sharp and holds an edge for a long time. The serrations work great on cordage. I have only had to touch it up with stropping. The serrations I just touched up with a Lansky Cold Steel serrations sharpener. The S35VN steel is a well balanced SS. It was a little stiff at first but is now now problem to flick open. It would also serve as a great self defense back up tool with the triad lock and blade shape. I highly recommend it.

Best blade you can buy, my favorite and only go to EDC tanto.

I absolutely use the hell out of this knife. Love the 50/50 deign. And at that price, it a great value!

Robust build, Flawless design, Scalpel sharp, Triad lock leaves NO doubt blade is “locked and ready to rock”. I was a Mariner for 22 years and have been a truck driver for 3 years. The uses and abuses onboard a ship are absolutely brutal on knives. I have NO doubt this knife would serve unfailingly. Just don’t let the Chief Mate borrow it and drop it over the side. I still use THIS knife daily as a Driver, it just isn’t subjected to the abuses nearly as much shoreside. I won’t lie, I DO carry a knife for protection. I was once robbed in Punta Arenas, Costa Rica and had my work knife for protection. They got my camera, but I was very likely spared a beating because I was armed. Did what Dad told me never to do…”DON’T take a knife to a gun fight.” Luckily all I lost was the camera. Four against One, Odds improved when I snapped out my blade, two ran off. Unfortunately, the two that stayed had a gun and a knife…I miss that camera.

This knife is so good, I bought 2 of them. The reason is I am so in love with this, I never want to be without it. This knife is part of my every day carry (EDC) stuff. Once I left it on a hot water tank in the basement and couldn't find it for a day... that taught me to have a spare on the ready. I use this countless times each day. Opening packages, cutting rope, cords, cloth, plants (the serrations are handy for this), poking, prying, and general preparedness for defense if needed. Stays sharp a long time, is light, agile and just an all around great and useful device.

Amazing knife and super sharp! I do construction and am constantly cutting things everyday made up of all kinds of material and this knife handles it all! Would love to see a drop point 50/50 version.
