Good Value

This item takes some work to install but raising and lowering my kayak for winter storage could not be easier. Be aware that the kayak will not sit flush against the ceiling but in fact it hangs 3 feet from the ceiling so you may have to lower your head when walking under the kayak.

Broke! Fell On Too Of Car And Damaged It.

Horrible product. I wish we would have read the reviews. It broke and a 70 pound kayak fell on too of our car. Thankfully it wasn’t on too of our children.

Easy Installation, Could Use Another Pulley

This is the perfect way to store our two new kayaks. Installation instructions were clear and foolproof, and the hardware is sold. The weight limit is fine, but unless you stay at about half that weight, it's hard to hoist it up. An extra pulley would make it easier.

Made a huge difference getting it off the garage floor!

Almost Died

I bought this today and hoisted my 87 pound canoe(product says 100 pound capacity). I lowered it just to see how it works. I literally touched the included straps and they broke. Another two minutes of walking under this canoe and I would have taken it to the head. I can’t believe this is allowed to be sold, what a piece of dangerous junk.

Good But Strap Broke Immediately After Pulling Up My Kayak

Bought this last week ready reviews and others straps have broken but they weren’t as specific to which strap. I almost couldn’t believe looking at it that I would assume it would break but what gives way is the way they sewed it at the seams which immediately broke. Damaged my tool box coming down so I bought new rope made of wire and new straps obviously ugh

Both Straps Broke And Dropped A $5000 Boat.

I bought this hoist 3 months ago for my 17’ ocean kayak. Boat weighs about 50lbs, so well under the advertised limits. Went to lower it and as soon as I released the tension to bring it down both straps broke at the seams (I didn’t have it on tight to the boat either) and my boat crashed to the floor…luckily there was a chest freezer to help break its fall, but now that’s messed up too. Overall, it held the boat fine when I didn’t use it, but poor craftsmanship and quality control led to a very avoidable accident, though. If you value your boat, don’t trust this product…or add some extra quality stitching yourself.

Twice Defective

First one we purchased, one of the straps failed. The stitching just came apart. Fortunately the brand new kayak (only 40 lbs) it was holding was only a few feet off the floor, so it wasn’t damaged in the fall. Second one we got, the rope was frayed. Not a quality product.

Does Not Hold 100 Pounds!!!

I bought this to get my Moken 12.5 off the garage floor. List weight - 85 pound. Installed the hoist. Had an empty kayak, seat on a shelf on the wall, nothing in the kayak when I store it. Put the straps around my kayak and began hoisting. Kayak was about 5 feet off the garage floor and the first strap busted - dropped my kayak onto the garage floor. Thought it might have been rigged wrong. Nope - that piece of junk strap busted at the seams. Had to replace the straps with a 5/8" rope. Well, I wasn't nearly as smart as I thought because I only replaced the strap that broke. So I got to hoisting a second time and the second strap broke. Dropped my kayak again. Pretty upset by this point. But I used a second rope and no problems since. But I shouldn't have to rig something up for a brand new product! And if there was any damage to my kayak from that piece of junk, I would have definitely made a claim. Those straps are cheap pieces of junk and will not hold the weight they claim. Be wary unless you don't mind a potential hole in your kayak from a 9 foot drop.

Do The Job.

These things get the boats out of the way. Super easy to install. Not a bunch of complicated parts to deal with. Price is unbelievable. Almost got one for free with reward coupon. Get your garage back buy one. I got two.

Mixed Feelings

I appreciated that this provides off the floor storage for my kayak, but have two primary concerns: 1) nearly impossible to release the catch without getting up on a ladder because I cannot get directly under the catch system. The angle due to the kayak hinders the release. 2) The rope does not appear that it will have a long life, expect wear and tear which could lead to failure and danger.
